Campos de Risca
Jumilla, Spain
Jumilla is a DO in Murcia, in the south-east of Spain. Although close to the sea, it is an arid and hilly
region with extreme conditions which are not apt for growing all types of grapes. "Risca" is the name
given to the particularly rocky, calcareous terrain on which Campos de Risca's 40 to 80 year old Monastrell (known as Mourvedre in France) vines are planted. They are perfectly adapted to the close to
drought-like conditions, producing chewy, peppery, complex, and intense but elegant wine. |
