Project 3000

The Project 3000 vineyard is at 3000 feet of elevation, making it the third highest vineyard in California. Located in the Red Hills of Lake County, the area is actually located just 15 miles east of Geyserville, as the crow flies. In this magnificent and tranquil setting there are well-drained, red volcanic rocky soils that cool dramatically at night. The wines of Project 3000, made by winemaker Peter Franus, focus on the classic Rhône varietals Syrah and Grenache – and evoke a definite Old World style not commonly found in the wines of California. www.project3000.net.

Vintage / Varietal Description Fact Sheet Shelf Talker Label
2003 Syrah (Lake County)

Cornas Markings! Aromas of dark fruits, minerals and spices give way to lush flavors of smoky, black raspberry and cassis-like fruit with soft tannins and a long, rich finish. 1500 cases produced.

2004 Grenache (Lake County)

The wine here reveals pepper, truffles, licorice and ripe, jammy black plum and cherry fruit that reluctantly emerge with coaxing from this dark ruby-colored wine. In the mouth there are gobs of tannin, structure and grip. Unmistakably fleshy and full-bodied. 500 cases produced.
