Project 3000
The Project 3000 vineyard is at 3000 feet of elevation, making it the third highest vineyard in California. Located in the Red Hills of Lake County, the area is actually located just 15 miles east of Geyserville, as the crow flies. In this magnificent and tranquil setting there are well-drained, red volcanic rocky soils that cool dramatically at night. The wines of Project 3000, made by winemaker Peter Franus, focus on the classic Rhône varietals Syrah and Grenache – and evoke a definite Old World style not commonly found in the wines of California.
